3 Home Technology Trends

What are the latest technology trends for homes? From recent articles coming out of Forbes, CEDIA, and other technology resources, I have created a summary of some interesting trends below. These are not new inventions, but rather they are trending where we will see them become much more common in our average homes.

Ease of Use

Technology is becoming easier to use for the average person. It is being developed as “plug and play” which eliminates much of the setup. This trend is for home technology to work when it is first plugged in. That is great news for the non-techie who still likes to enjoy the advantages of new technology in their home! Along with plug and play, home technology is becoming more and more controlled by voice assistants like Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistants.

Innovative Television Screens

Televisions screens are changing to become an enhancement to your home environment instead of a distraction. For example, what you may be seeing is framed screens, and ones that take on the look of a room and literally become artwork in your space. These are sometimes referred to “vanishing screens”.

Scene-Based Living

This includes an emphasis on light being used differently in our homes. Instead of making the choice of either warm or cool lights, there are light systems coming that will allow you to adjust the light coloring for the immediate situation. These adjustments will also allow for more healthy and natural looking light. In addition, home technology will set a scene through the touch of a button. What do I mean by that? You will be able to create a customized home technology experience that includes lighting, music, climate, audio/video, security etc.

I don’t know about you, but I am excited about these home trends! Technology is being used to allow us to bring incredible atmosphere into our homes where we can not only design furniture and pain colors, but have much more control over the details of our home.
